Q.
I have the requirement to cover wide spans of road. How far will a
CATSCLAW systems span?
A.
By adding further pads to a standard system, a width of over 65 feet
(20 meters) can be spanned.
Q. What
would happen if a vehicle impacted a CATSCLAW system with all brakes
locked (skidding)?
A.
Our products are designed with this in mind. The CATSCLAW Mobile &
Military systems will move into a natural curve or arc under these
circumstances. Each corner of each pad impacts with its neighbor, thus
absorbing the shock of the vehicle impact. The radius of the wheels
fitted to the vehicle keeps the CATSCLAW systems firmly flat on the
ground. The unit is fully functional and fully effective in this
state.
CATSCLAW Permanent is not effected by a
vehicle skidding over it - this system is installed flush with the
road surface.
Q. Is it
dangerous to destroy vehicle tires outright - particularly at high
speed?
A.
Throughout exhaustive testing conducted by an independent team of
quality control engineers and other third parties [the German
Authorities B.G.S and T.U.V., and the British Defense Evaluation
Research Agency ], it had been found that the instant destruction of
tire cavities is the most effective and safe means of stopping
vehicles. The guaranteed destruction of all of the vehicles tires
ensures that no drive is available to any of the vehicles wheels -
rapidly bringing the target vehicle to a standstill.
Q. What
maintenance requirements are necessary with CATSCLAW Products?
A.
Maintenance requirements of CATSCLAW products are minimal. We
recommend that each individual pad is hose washed occasionally to
eliminate the build up of debris. The 12 Volt drive battery has the
same maintenance requirements as a standard car battery (charging unit
supplied as standard).
Q. What is
the expected operational life-span of CATSCLAW Products?
A.
CATSCLAW products enforce international borders
worldwide. All units have heavy traffic use; many of these units have
been in use for over 10 (ten) years. Some of these border crossings
have a traffic flow of over 14 million vehicles each year. CATSCLAW
products are virtually indestructible and prove to be a valuable asset
to all organizations.
Q. What
happens if the blades become blunt or damaged through heavy use?
A. Occasionally, the blades will become damaged through heavy use or
incidents where the blades come into contact with, for example, a
poorly fitted exhaust system on a target vehicle. Each blade can be
removed and replaced using a simple two screw fixture mechanism. The
replacement of a blade can be achieved in approximately 5 minutes.
Q. Will
CATSCLAW products stop vehicles fitted with devices such as self-seal
or run flat-tires?
A.
Yes. The damage inflicted to the tires is devastating - beyond 'self
seal' repair. Self sealing tires are capable of repairing small
punctures up to 3/16th of an inch, but CATSCLAW's blades slash a
minimum of two, deep, long cuts deep into the tire cavity - far more
than self sealing tires can cope with.
Likewise 'Run-Flat' tire devices. Run Flat
products maintain reduced vehicle mobility with one or two flat tires.
However, CATSCLAW destroys all vehicle tires on deployment.
Q. Could
CATSCLAW Mobile be used as a permanent system?
A.
Yes. Connecting CATSCLAW Mobile to a power supply which is capable of
charging a 12 Volt battery would enable CATSCLAW Mobile to be deployed
on permanent duty.
Q.
How secure are the radio signals which operate CATSCLAW products?
Could a radio signal from an illegal / external source operate
CATSCLAW systems?
A.
No. The radio operating system for CATSCLAW
products is 'Dual Conversational Code Hopping' [when the authorized
signal is transmitted to the CATSCLAW receiver, the receiver transmits
a signal back to the hand unit which, in turn, returns the signal
re-coded]. This random re-coding has in excess of 16 million
combinations.
Q. How
quickly can CATSCLAW Mobile and Military be deployed?
A.
CATSCLAW Mobile can be deployed from the trunk of a car to fully
operational status in less than 2 minutes.
Q. How long
does it take for the blades to be raised / lowered?
A.
From 'way clear' to 'road blocked' in less
than 1 [ONE] second.
Q. How long
would it take a new user to be able to deploy and operate a CATSCLAW
product?
A.
A new user can be trained fully to use
CATSCLAW products in in less than 10 minutes.
